Lyon College Defends Home Court

Lyon College Defends Home Court- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 9/17/24

Batesville, Ark.- Pioneer Volleyball made the short trip to the neighboring town of Batesville, Ark to take on the 5-1 Lady Scots of NCAA DIII Lyon College. After three sets, the hosting team defeated CRC, dropping the Lady Pioneers to 1-3 on the year. Sets went as follows; 25-18 Lyon, 25-19 Lyon, and 25-15 Lyon.

In this evening's opening set of action, the Lady Pioneers busted out of the gate with speed as CRC took a five-point lead over the Scots before Lyon could find its groove to begin chiseling away at the difference. CRC maintained their lead in set one until the Scots strung together a four-point run to overthrow the Pioneers, 19-15, which stood firm as CRC never could come back. Set two Lyon College turned the tables, giving CRC a taste of their own medicine by forcing CRC to burn their first timeout of the set as the 'Ridge stared down at an early five-point deficit of 9-4. After the timeout, CRC would get close to turning the tides in their favor thanks to three consecutive service aces from Jillian Glasgow, but painfully the Lady Pioneers wouldn't be able to reclaim the lead as Lyon ever edged the Pioneers winning set two with a perfectly placed service ace. In the final set, CRC showed determination once more by jumping ahead 4-1 over the Scots but with all momentum in Lyon's favor,  the Scots offense quickly recovered and retaliated with an absurd 11-1 run which took all wind from Pioneer sails, dooming CRC.

Hannah Halverson led the offense with 7 kills and 8 digs. Jadyn Hesse and Jillian Glasgow reached double digits in assits with Glasgow besting Hesse 11 to 10. Glasgow also added three service aces in the loss.

Up Next: The season is still young and the Lady Pioneers have a lot of ball left to play! Catch the Lady Pioneer in action next Friday, September 20th in the Carter Activities Center as the Pioneers take on sister school Freed-Hardeman University on their home court. #GOPIONEERS
