Pioneers Wrap Up Weekend in Florida
Pioneers Wrap Up Weekend in Florida- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 10/22/22
The Pioneers competed in their last two games of the CAC Classic in FL today. CRC was still in search of their first win in Florida after dropping both matches yesterday. Crowley's Ridge would again come up empty handed in the win column as they were swept in consecutive sets in both matches. CRC would fall first to Haskell at 11:00am and then to the hosting team, Florida College, at 3:00pm.
Game One
CRC-0
Haskell-3
Set one, Haskell would come out swinging. The Fighting Indians posted their highest kill set of the match with a team effort of 13 kills; these kills would come late in the set as CRC would lead Haskell most of set one. The late run by Haskell, who won 10 of the last 12 points, would allow them to slip past CRC 25-20.
Set two, Haskell would try to pull away early but junior Hannah Halverson would produce a couple of kills to make things even at 5-5. CRC would continue to fight as junior's Brooklynn Passmore and Emi Elms would go back to back with kills, from the assistance of sophomore Jadyn Hesse. This effort would not only tie the set but would take the lead with a score of 12-11. The Pioneers would lead the remainder of the set until Haskell would spawn a late run again like in set one. This damage would be a 5-0 run, to best the 'Neers in set two 25-22.
Set three, Crowley's would see themselves in an uphill battle as they were down two sets to none. The Lady Pioneers would kindle a 4-0 run to take the lead back 8-7. Sophomore Alexis Weirich along with juniors Hannah Halveron and Emi Elms all thumped kills on the Haskell defense with freshmen Holly Berry ending the run with a service ace. The Fighting Indians would again rally late in the set. This one would be a 6-1 run to take a demanding 19-11 lead over the girls in green. The late rally would prove to be the touch Haskell needed as they would win set three 25-14 and sweep the Pioneers.
Leaders:
Emi Elms led in kills (7). Jadyn Hesse led in assists (18). Hannah Halverson led in digs (20) followed by Kinley Matlock (16)
Game two
CRC-0
Florida College-3
Set one, Florida College blasted out a punishing attack on the net. The Lady Falcons put together an 18 kill set on a .455 hitting percentage. The Lady Pioneers would string a few points together with kills from sophomores Alexis Weirich and Paige Glenn, but it would not be sufficient as the hosting team would take set one 25-12.
Set two, the Lady Pioneers took the lead with the help from junior Brooklynn Passmore. She would step behind the service line and with her ace give CRC a 2-1 lead. Florida College would answer with a stout 11-0 run before junior Hannah Halverson would stall the attack with a kill. The Pioneers would muster their biggest rally of the night producing a 8-3 run against the Falcons. Junior Emi Elms would have a big block midway through this run to keep it alive. When it was over the 'Neers would only trail 13-15. Before CRC was able to regain the lead, the Falcons attack hammered the CRC defense once again creating distance between the scores. Sophomore Paige Glenn would win back to back points for the Pioneers with kills in the late stages of set two, but the gorge was to vast and the falcons took set two, 25-17
Set three, the Falcons would put away the Pioneers. Sophomore Jadyn Hesse would link up with junior Brooklynn Passmore for the kill to take the lead, 5-4. This would be the only lead as Florida College quickly regained the advantage. The Ladies in black and green would cut the deficit to two with a score of 8-10, but Florida College would crush all comeback hopes by winning 15 of the next 17 points defeating CRC in the match with a set three win, 25-10.
Leaders:
Hannah Halverson led in kills (5). Jadyn Hesse led in assists (15). Kinley Matlock and Hannah Halverson led in digs with (9) each.
