Pioneers Fall In Classic Opener - Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 2-3-23

Crowley's Ridge College took its turn hosting a CAC conference classic weekend for the 2022-23 season. The Women's Basketball team kicked off the classic with a rematch against Iowa Wesleyan University. The Pioneers entered the competition looking for revenge as the Tigers bested them earlier this year in a road conference matchup in Espanola, New Mexico. The Tiger'' strong offensive attack would again prove to be more than the Pioneers could overcome. 

Paragould, Ark-  The Tigers pulled away early, claiming a 10-3 lead with 7:16 to go in the first. Brinley Morgan and Travia Woodruff would be in the spotlight this quarter as they both produced 5 points each while Woodruff racked up three assists as well to keep the Pioneers in the game. Pioneers end quarter one down, 15-26. The Tigers continued to grow their lead going into the half as they outscored the Pioneers 33-9 in this quarter. Iowa Wesleyan took a steep lead into the break, 57-24. When play resumed after the break the Pioneers' defense stepped up and only allowed 16 points from the Tigers' attack. Meanwhile, the team in green rallied their second 15-point quarter of the contest. Going into the fourth the Pioneers' needed a momentum change, but the Tigers of Iowa Wesleyan would kill all change in momentum as they again outscored  Crowley's Ridge 25-10 claiming the victory 98-49.  

Leaders: 

Travia Woodruff led with 11 points and 6 assists.4 steals and 4 rebounds.
