The 2 week drought for CRC Women's Basketball ended this afternoon in an exciting matchup against the Panthers of Greenville University. After the Lady Pioneers, (4-3) on the season, entered the Thanksgiving Holiday break with a tough 47-48 loss against Oakwood University back on 11-19-22 , they looked to bounce back against a stout Greenville University team who entered today's contest (5-1) on the season. After a close battle the entire matchup, it would be the late points from the charity stripe that would leave the Pioneers on top in a 73-67 victory.
Quarter one, Lindsey Browning would lead the Pioneers in points. Browning went 2-4 from the field while grabbing 3 rebounds. What changed the mood this quarter would come from the CRC bench. Mickayla Smith and Octavia Lowery would each sink a shot from behind the arc, which would help leave the Pioneers tied with the Panthers, 16-16 after the first time period.
Quarter two, CRC would produce their highest field goal percentage of the matchup as they shot a whopping 56.3 % in the quarter. Lotti Hoffman would get the three ball going as she entered from the bench and immediately scored from the corner. This attack from the Pioneers would pull them ahead by as much as 15 with 3:00 minutes to go into the break with Sierrah Floyd hitting back to back three balls pulling ahead 38-23.The Panthers would rally a couple buckets late, and cut the gap as CRC entered the half up 9, 40-31. Crowley's Ridge outscored the Panthers 24-15 this quarter.
Quarter three, the visiting Lady Panthers busted out a 8-2 run cutting the deficit to a one possession game, 42-39. The Pioneers would shoot their lowest field goal percentage, but with the help from a crucial three pointer from Hunter Gibson, Crowley's Ridge would keep the lead with a score of 51-48.
Quarter four, Greenville University would muster their biggest quarter of the matchup by collecting 19 points as a team. The team in green hit the nitro reserves, and rallied 22 points themselves to keep the win secure. What solidified the game would be late free throws from Brinley Morgan and Reigiana Ward, along with a key rebound from Alayzah Foster. With the Pioneers up, Hunter Gibson grabbed the last rebound of the game after a missed shot by the Lady Panthers, ensuring that the clock expired with the Pioneers on top 73-67.
