HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Facing a defense that holds the lowest field-goal percentage allowed in the NAIA, Crowley's Ridge College fell victim to (RV) Rust (Miss.) College on Tuesday night by a final score of 79-53. The Lady Bearcats allow their opponents to 30.5% shooting from the floor over their 13 games of play while holding their opponents to an average of 49.8 points per game - a mark that ranks them third in the country in that category.
Crowley's Ridge (4-6) stumbled out of the gate, collecting their fourth point of the night with just over two minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Kiyuanna Foster completed an and-one opportunity to give the Lady Pioneers some life before ending the first quarter trailing 21-9.
The Lady Bearcats (11-2) continued to throttle up the pressure by bucketing a game-high 23 points in the second quarter. Meanwhile, the Lady Pioneers connected on just two field goals in quarter number two, taking a 44-17 deficit into the locker room.
Improving greatly, Crowley's Ridge entered the third quarter to make up for lost points by collecting 22 points, thanks in part to Shmyira Brown's eight-point third quarter. The freshman went 4-4 from the floor in the penultimate quarter to shrink the CRC hole down to 62-39 entering the final quarter.
Coming off of the bench, N'Kyah Edward tallied four points in seven minutes of action in the fourth quarter, but the efforts fell short with Crowley's Ridge falling 79-53.
Brown led all Lady Pioneer scoring with 10 points, marking her third 10+ point game. Lindsey Browning and Lotti Hoffman followed with seven points each. Lizzy Rowton pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
