Pioneer Softball Forces Split Against (RV) Columbia College

Pioneer Softball Forces Split Against (RV) Columbia College- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 4/18/25

Pioneer Softball (17-21 & 8-10 AMC) pulled the game two upset, defeating (RV) Columbia College (26-12 & 17-5 AMC) 8-5, after dropping game one 0-3. 

Game 1

Crowley's Ridge- 0

Columbia College- 3

Paragould, Ark.- In game one, the Pioneers and Cougars were even at the plate as both teams summoned 5 hits in the game. The difference maker was that Columbia College was more efficient, scoring 3 runs off their base knocks with two runs in the third and a final run in the sixth, separating the two teams. Senior Kourtni Jagneaux led the offense, going 2 for 3. Senior Kylie Cox, junior Karsen Overshine, and sophomore Hadlee DeFries each added a hit in the loss. Freshman Ava Jessup took the loss, going the distance, allowing 3 runs off 5 hits while walking 1 and fanning 5 from the circle. 


Game 2

Columbia College- 5

Paragould, Ark.- The Lady Pioneers bounced back in game two, outhitting the (RV) Cougars with 12 hits, propelling them to an 8-5 win at home at Pioneer Park. The Lady Pioneers did their damage at the plate in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings as CRC opened the contest with four 4 runs in the third off an RBI single from Lilly Wessel and a 3-run jack from senior Kourtni Jagneaux. Junior Bailey Cupples racked up one more run in the fourth off her single to center field before the Pioneers pushed three final runs to the plate off a Hadlee DeFries fielder's choice and a 2 RBI single from Karsen Overshine. Three Lady Pioneers combined to help get the win on the mound with freshman Aimee Buckley earning the win as the starter allowed 4 runs (3 earned) off 7 hits, walking 1 and striking out 1 over 5.0 innings. Senior Halea Wells held off the Cougars, relieving Buckley, allowing 1 run off 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1 over 1.1 before handing it off to senior Natalie Brightwell, who earned the save, allowing no hits or runs while striking out 1 in .2 innings, closing the game. Cupples, Jagneaux, Jocelyn Villarreal, and Kylie Cox each had two hits in the contest. Jagneaux led the team in RBIs with 3, Karsen Overshine followed with 2.
