Pioneers Snap Panthers Winning Streak- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 3/25/25

The Lady Pioneers (10-10 & 2-2 AMC) handed NCAA DIII Greenville University (13-1) their first loss of the season, defeating the Panthers in game two after dropping game one. 

Game 1

Crowley's Ridge- 0

Greenville University- 5 

Greenville, IL- Greenville claimed the opening contest by shutting out the Pioneers five to nil. The Panthers allowed just four base hits from the Pioneers in the seven-inning matchup, while walking none and fanning ten hitters. CRC kept things within striking distance, holding the Panthers to just two runs until a 6th inning homer stole the game from the Pioneers. Karsen Overshine claimed two of the team's four hits, going 2 for 3 with two singles, one in the first and the other in the top of the fourth. Hadlee DeFries and Jocelyn Villarreal claimed the others with a single in the 3rd and the 7th. Halea Wells took the loss, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) off 11 hits with 2 strikeouts over 6.0 innings.

Greenville University-1

Greenville, IL- In today's second go-round, the Lady Pioneers would emerge victorious, handing the undefeated Panthers their first blemish of the season with a 4-1 win. Both teams duked it out in the third inning with the Pioneers scoring 3 runs off 2 hits and the Panthers pushing 1 run across off 2 hits. Senior Jocelyn Villarreal brought in the first run of the matchup as the Florida native doubled to right center to score Bailey Cupples. Senior Kylie Cox followed up with a groundout to second to score junior Lilly Wessel, and freshman Jordan Janak finished the chain with a single to right center, scoring Villarreal. CRC's fourth and final run of the game was delivered by Wessel as the Missourian connected with her first homer of the season in the 7th, sending a solo shot over the left field fence. Natalie Brightwell earned her 6th win of the year, allowing 1 run off 7 hits, walking 1 and striking out 2 in 6.0 innings. Ava Jessup earned her first save of the season, closing the game, allowing 2 hits while striking out 1 in 1.0 innings. The Lady Pioneers had 7 hits in the game with 7 different Pioneers recording a hit. Wessel led the way, going 1 for 3 with an HR, BB, 2 runs scored, and 1 RBI.
