Softball Wins Conference Matchup Against Haskell- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 3/23/24
Softball opened its conference play today by hosting CAC opponent Haskell University at Pioneer Park. The Lady Pioneers swept both contests against the Lady Indians, improving to 2-0 in the CAC.
Game One:
Crowley's Ridge- 8
Haskell University- 0
Paragould, Ark.- The Lady Pioneers easily defeated the Lady Indians in game one thanks to Shelby Elrod's stout performance from the inner circle. Elrod took her sixth win of the year by making her mark on Pioneer Softball history once more with her dominant no-hitter performance in the five-inning run rule. Elrod scarcely missed her second perfect game of the season by walking one Lady Indian in the top of the second. The Pioneers were efficient as they scored eight runs on eight hits in the contest. Shelby Elrod, Hannah Burk, and Dru Bryant had two hits for CRC. Burk drove in four RBIs and Bryant and Elrod each picked up a two-bagger in the win.
Game Two:
Crowley's Ridge- 13
Haskell University- 5
Paragould, Ark.- Sikeston, MO native Ashton Drake helped project the Lady Pioneers above Haskell in game two with her monstrous three-for-three day at the plate where the third basemen drove in a team-high four RBIs. CRC's offense smashed out twelve hits in the conference matchup, having four Lady Pioneers record multiple hits in their second run-rule victory of the day. CRC churned out four multi-run innings with their biggest of four runs happening twice in the first and fifth innings. Halea Wells picked up her third win on the year by tosing 3.0 innings where the junior gave up four runs on seven hits before being relieved by Natalie Brightwell who picked up her first save of the season thanks to her authoritative pitching over the final two innings.
Up Next: CRC Softball will host Rust College on Monday, March 25th for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 PM. #GOPIONEERS
