Lady Pioneers Remain Winless at Home

Lady Pioneers Remain Winless at Home- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 3-28-23

Game One:

Crowley's Ridge- 1

Williams Baptist- 7

Paragould, Ark.- In game one, the top of the second would be where Williams Baptist did their damage to doom the Lady Pioneers. Halea Wells entered the circle and shut down the Eagles' offense in the top of the first, giving the Lady Pioneer a chance to draw first blood. But, after a Maddie Reed one-out double didn't amount to anything the Eagles broke the silence by scoring 7 runs in the top of the 2nd inning with 6 runs crossing with two outs. CRC made a pitching change, and Natalie Brightwell entered the game and retired the third out with a fly to Bailey Cupples in right field. Brightwell would hold the Eagles scoreless the rest of the game but CRC couldn't link together any momentum with their five-hit performance. CRC's only run in game one came from second basemen Autum Maxwell in the bottom half of the 6th as she doubled down the left field line scoring Maddie Erickson. CRC falls 7-1.

Game Two:

Crowley's Ridge- 1

Williams Baptist- 6

Paragould, Ark. In game two Shelby Elrod took the rubber for the Pioneers and went the distance hurling all 7.0 innings. The Eagles of WBU didn't waste any time getting runs across the plate as they held the lead for the game and its entirety. The Eagles posted two runs each in the first, third, and seventh innings. CRC ended the game with 4 hits as a team. The Pioneers left 5 runners stranded and scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the 7th after back-to-back base hits from Piper Farmer and Bailee Duhme. Farmer smashed a triple to right field and freshmen Duhme followed with a smoking single to second base pushing pinch runner Angel Johnson across home plate. Pioneers fall 6-1.
