Pioneer XC Takes Sixth in AMC Meet; Tonkery and Eagleman Named Champion of Character

Pioneer XC Takes Sixth in AMC Meet; Tonkery and Eagleman Named Champion of Character- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 11/8/24

Pioneer XC finished their season off by competing in the American Midwest Conference Meet hosted at Hannibal-LaGrange University. In today's conference race, the men's squad took sixth place in the 8k while the Lady Pioneers had two runners, senior Sami Tonkery, and sophomore Laura Combs representing the school as individuals in the 6k.

Hannibal, MO- Like he has all season, freshman Mark Eagleman paced the team with the Kansas native spearheading the squad with an official time of 36:45.70, for 41st overall. Freshman Dayton Skaggs claimed the number two finish as Skaggs followed Eagleman's time with an official cross at 40:28.82 for 47th overall. Finishing in the middle of the pack was senior Blake Wilson as the veteran Pioneer finished two slots behind Skaggs at 49th overall with a time of 41:34.32. Junior Nate Ferguson took fourth for the team as the upperclassman placed 56th overall with his final time of 47:38.90. Rounding off the team scorecard in fifth place would be freshman Trent Siemens. Siemens crossed on the heels of Ferguson with a final time of 48:13.03 for 58th overall. CRC's sixth and final male runner for the meet was freshman Blake Gaebler who finished in the alternate slot with Gaebler finishing 63rd overall with a time of 53:04.08.

For the women, Laura Combs was the first Lady Pioneer to reach the finish line as Combs crossed with an official time of 33:56.14 for 49th overall. Senior Sami Tonkery followed crossing with a time of 41:49.38 for 57th overall. 

CRC walked away with two awards with senior Sami Tonkery and freshman Mark Eagleman earning Champion of Character. The Champion of Character is awarded to a select number of student-athletes who demonstrate the 5 core qualities of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership in the classroom and on the field. Tonkery and Eagleman join a select group as recipients of this prestigious award. Congrats Sami and Mark!
