PRs for CRCXC
PRs for CRCXC- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 10/8/23
Clarksville, Ark.- A sunshiny, fifty-two-degree morning made for some nice running and personal season records for CRC Cross Country Saturday at the University of the Ozarks Invitational. The Pioneer men's and women's teams lined up against fifteen other colleges from Arkansas, Missouri, and Tennessee.
Head Coach Shannon Beasley stated there were lots of smiles on his runners' faces at the finish line: "Smiles from the race being over, of course, but mainly smiles because of so many new PRs [personal records]!" Anthony Holladay, freshman, Tuckerman, AR, and Nathan Hunter, freshman, West Memphis, AR, both ran their fastest times for the season, as did Taylin Green, freshman, Bald Knob, AR, Shelby Elrod, senior, Barlow, KY, and Sami Tonkery, Zanesville, OH.
Their smiles may have grown even wider once they discovered the course was a "long course." Coach Beasley explained, "With so many PRs—one by a drop of six minutes!—I had to double-check with the meet director to ask if maybe it was a 'short course.'" Sometimes due to course changes the women's 5K distance and the men's 8K distance may be a little short of those exact measurements. Coach Skiles, head coach of cross country at the University of the Ozarks told Beasley that actually the course was "long," being a bit beyond 5K and 8K.
Beasley's runners were pleased to hear that—and excited for the next meet, which will be the Continental Athletic Conference Championship in Lawrence, KS, on November 3. "That course will be a legit 5K and 8K," Beasley said, "and we're hoping the PRs they set Saturday won't last long--that everyone will have a new one when they cross the line in Kansas!"#GOPIONEERS
