Golf Wraps Up Final Fall Invitational - Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 10/12/22
CRC golf traveled to Springfield, MO to compete in the Evangel Valor Fall Invitational this past Monday, October 10 and Tuesday, October 11. This marks the third and last fall invitational for the Pioneers as they now prepare to tee off in the spring. The Pioneers have continued to improve on the green each matchup. CRC Men's team placed fourth overall in the invitational. Once again Fr. Maddie Minyard tagged along paving the way for the future of the women's program. She competed as an Individual in the women's bracket.
Senior Isaac Langley would lead the Pioneers after two days of play on the green. The Piggott, Ark. native couldn't find anything below par on day one but would sink two birdies on the second day of play. Even with these birdies the senior would add one stroke to his game. Langley birdied hole one to start day two and found the second in the back nine on hole 12. He would finish 13 over par putting him tied for 12th overall.
Freshman Joseph Ramsey produced his best rounds of golf this fall. The Pangburn, Ark. native would shoot a career low 8 over par on day one and would best it by dropping it by one stroke the second day of play. Ramsey birdied holes 3 and 14 on day one and would match it by sinking two more on day two, holes 1 and 6. Ramsey finished second overall for the Pioneers and would end 15 over par making him 14th overall.
Senior Andrew Lee would hold down the third spot for the Pioneers. Lee would hit a rough patch early on in day one of play before sinking two birdies on holes 7 and 14 to help control the damage. Day two, Lee would rally shaving off a whopping 5 strokes. To put the icing on the cake he landed his first eagle of the year on hole 18 to end his fall play. Andrew Lee would end the invitational 17 over par and 15th overall.
Sophomore Creston Sweet finished fourth overall for the Pioneers. The sophomore started day one on the right note by making birdie on the second hole, dropping him one below par. Sweet wouldn't be able to keep this chain going as he struggled on the back nine. Like Lee on day two, Sweet would step up his effort on the green. The sophomore shaved 9 big ones off his total, ending the tournament 21 over par and in 21st overall.
Junior Matthew Crabtree would finish in 5th for Crowley's Ridge. On day one Crabtree would tee off his tournament play making birdie on hole one. The Westside High School graduate would go on to shoot a very respectable front nine before letting the back nine get the better of him. Day two, Crabtree would have a better performance and shave off 4 strokes ending the tournament 34 over par and in 22nd overall.
"For the men's team, it's the end of an era. This fall, senior Joel Burrow took on more of an assistant coaching role that truly helped his team more than he'll ever know. The whole, including myself, will miss having Joel with us going forward. He's been a tremendous blessing to all of us!
Having said that, the men's team just continues to get better and better as time goes on. I can't wait to see the goals they achieve next!"- Head Coach Adam Meeker
Maddie Minyard tagged along with the boys in green once again for the final time this fall. The freshman from Armorel High School competed in the individual category and continued to improve her game both days making history for the school and its program. Day one of action Minyard would be faced with her toughest course yet. Minyard would start the first day slow but picked up speed by shaving 5 strokes off the back nine. After a short nights rest, Minyard would again improve her game dropping 7 more strokes ending the fall with her best performance and placing her 51st overall in the tournament.
"Maddie is something else. She continues to make great strides as CRC's first female golfer. With her drive and tenacity, I can't wait to see where she goes in the future!" - Head Coach Adam Meeker.
