Men's Basketball hosted Philander Smith College this afternoon to kick off the Thanksgiving break on the campus of Crowley's Ridge College. The Pioneers entered the game 1-4 after 3 consecutive road losses, including their most recent against Harding University on Tuesday, November 15th. The Pioneers would strike first, but not hold the lead ultimately falling to the Panthers at home.
PARAGOULD, AR - Philander Smith College out rebounded Crowley's Ridge College on Saturday, including a 13-4 advantage on offensive rebounds in route to a 67-57 Panthers win.
Crolwey's Ridge claimed first blood to kick off the game, jumping ahead with a 9-3 lead over the Panthers early in the first half. This lead would be CRC's largest lead of the half. Soon, Philander Smith College retaliated by chipping away to retake the lead, entering the break with an eight point advantage over the Pioneers, 33-25.
The second half saw the Panthers dominate the rebounds and force CRC into turnovers. Philander Smith capitalized on CRC's mistakes, pulling ahead by as much as 19. CRC rallied, but with the clock not on their side as time expired with CRC trailing 57-67. The Pioneers finished the day with 23 turnovers.
Braxton Cousins led CRC with 21 points in the afternoon. B.J. Johnson added 11 rebounds
