No. 21 Columbia College Takes Round 1 against Pioneer Baseball

No. 21 Columbia College Takes Round 1 against Pioneer Baseball- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 4/18/25

Pioneer Baseball (7-35 & 6-24 AMC) dropped both American Midwest Conference contests today against the (38-7 & 29-5 AMC)  Cougars of Columbia College. 

Game 1

Columbia, MO- The No.21 ranked Cougars defeated the Pioneers by a margin of ten runs in the opening contest, kudos to the dominant second inning where Columbia College pushed seven runs to the plate off six hits off the Pioneer pitching staff. The Pioneer offense mustered three runs off four hits in the loss. Juniors Trey Drake and Clay Burgess claimed the team's two RBIs with big hits in the third as Drake scored sophomore Brylan Honeycutt with a single to left, and Burgess scored Drake off a double to right center later in the frame. Jack Roney took the loss, allowing 10 runs off 11 hits, while walking 5 in 4.0 innings. 

Game 2

Columbia, MO- In game two, the Pioneers would enter the 7th frame trailing by twelve runs, but a last minute rally from the Pioneer offense would make things interesting for the Cougars as the Pioneer's bats roared to life, linking 8 runs off 8 hits, including batting around for the first time this season and two Pioneer home runs, a solo shot from junior Trey Drake and a 3-run blast from Rilyn Coleman. Torturously, the Cougars would finally settle the storm, catching one last break by retiring the final out with Alex Gamez lining out to right field to end the contest. As a team, the Pioneers posted their second-best hitting effort of the season, collecting 15 hits and scoring 11 RBIs.  Trey Drake led the charge, going 4 for 4 with a double, a homerun, and 2 RBI. Alex Gamez followed closely with a 3 for 4, two doubles, and 3 RBI stat line. Rilyn Coleman added a 1 for 4 with a homerun and 3 RBI afternoon. Lastly, Parker Gordon and John Wilson collected a pair of hits each with an RBI. JackHenry Glasgow took the loss, allowing 8 runs (6 earned) off 7 hits while walking 1 in 2.2 innings. 

Up Next: CRC Baseball will return to Columbia, MO on Monday, April 21 to finish the conference series against the Cougars after the weather over the weekend passes. #GOPIONEERS
