Mission University (22-11 & 16-8 AMC) swept the Pioneers (6-28 & 6-18 AMC) in CRC's home series this weekend at Pioneer Park, winning games three and four earlier this afternoon.
Game 3
Crowley's Ridge- 6
Mission University- 10
Paragould, Ark.- Much to the Pioneers' dismay, Mission University opened day two with a similar endgame as yesterday's contests, as the Partiots pulled away with game three in the top of the 7th, increasing a one-run lead into a game-changing six-point gap for the Pioneers. In the early innings, designated hitter Alex Gamez got the Pioneers going with an RBI single in the second to cut the Patriots' lead in half before big hitters Adonis Thomas and Clay Burgess helped the Pioneers to a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth with Thomas doubling and Burgess homering in back-to-back at-bats. Mission erased the Pioneer lead by scoring three over the next two innings before Gamez hit the rewind button and brought in his second RBI of the day, cutting the Patriots' lead back to one once more to head into the final frame. Wailfully, Mission University summoned their best offensive effort in the top half of the frame to push 5 runs to the plate, heavily credited to two homers. In the Pioneers' last stand, senior Adonis Thomas would hit his second double to bring in two final runs with Trey Drake and Blake Wilson scoring on the extra base hit, but the rally would fall short, seeing Mission on top. The Pioneers had 10 hits in the game. Thomas, Burgess, Gamez, and Rilyn Coleman each had two hits. Thomas, Burgess, and Gamez each added two RBIs. Jack Roney took the loss, allowing 8 runs (7 earned) off 9 hits while walking 3 and striking out 3 in 6.0 innings.
Game 4
Crowley's Ridge- 1
Mission University- 14
Paragould, Ark.- In the series finale, Mission University would claim the contest and conference sweep by lacing together a weekend best 15 hits on which they pushed 14 runs across the plate. CRC was restricted to 6 hits, scooping one run off an RBI single from freshman Alex Gamez in the bottom of the 7th. Elijah Mayfield, Brylan Honeycutt, Clay Burgess, Rilyn Coleman, Matthew Parker, and Gamez each had one hit in the contest. Parker Gordon took the loss, allowing 11 runs (8 earned) off 11 hits while walking 1 and fanning 3 in 4.0 innings of work. Freshman Conner Johnson made his collegiate debut with the Portageville, MO native relieving Gordon for the final 3.0 innings, allowing 3 runs off 4 hits while striking out 2 in the outing.
Up Next: Pioneer Baseball will travel to Hot Springs, Arkansas, taking on Champion Christian College in a non-conference double header this coming Tuesday, April 1st. #GOPIONEERS
