Pioneer Baseball improved to 3-7 in the American Midwest Conference with a series split against the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University.

Hannibal, MO- The Pioneers faced a day two opening loss to the Trojans after a pitchers battle took place between senior RHP Jack Roney and HLGU's Andrew Arnce in game three of the weekend series. Roney delivered his second consecutive quality start for the Pioneers, following up his game-three win against Williams Baptist University back on March 1st. In today's action, the South Fulton, Tenn. native allowed 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4 in 6.0 innings but was edged by the Trojan pitching which allowed just 1 Pioneer run off 5 team hits. Sophomore Rilyn Coleman brought the Pioneers one run to the plate in the top of the 6th with a deep sacrifice fly to center field scoring Parker Gordon who tagged up from third. Junior Conner Boan led the offense going 3-3 with 2 doubles in the loss.

Hannibal, MO- The Ridge bounced back in the series finale by summoning season-high performances, smashing out 16 hits on which they scored 14 runs to claim game 4 by double digits. HLGU scored all 4 Trojan runs in the bottom of the first, credited mostly to a 3 run homer before the Pioneer defense shut down and shut-out the Trojans over the next six innings. Sophomore Parker Gordon earned the win for the Pioneers from the bump, tossing a complete game allowing 4 runs off 8 hits while striking out 6 over 7.0 innings. Five Pioneers had multiple hits in the big win, four of the five had three-hit performances, and three Pioneers had three or more RBIs. Sophomore Rilyn Coleman led the team going 3 for 4 with 4-RBIs. Clay Burgess followed going 3 for 5 with 3-RBIs and 2 runs scored. Lastly, Freshman Alex Gamez went 3-3 with 3-RBIs and 1 run scored.
Up Next: The Pioneers will travel to St. Louis, MO on Tuesday, March 11th to take on Missouri Baptist in a doubleheader. #GOPIONEERS
