Pioneer Baseball picked up conference win number two of the season, splitting with the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University.
Game 1
Crowley's Ridge- 6
Hannibal- LaGrange- 3
Hannibal, MO- A ten-hit series opener and dominant pitching from CRC led the Pioneers over the Trojans of HLGU by a difference of three runs in game one. JackHenry Glasgow tossed 6.2 innings, allowing 3 runs off 5 hits, and fanned 6 Trojan hitters to earn his first win of the year. North Arkansas Community College transfer Elijah Mayfield earned the save in the contest, relieving Glasgow in the seventh to retire the final out with a backwards K. The Pioneer offense spread out runs in the contest, seeing the difference maker string together in the late stages as the Pioneers pushed four runs across in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings to break the standstill. Conner Boan and James Wilson led the offense with both Pioneers going 3 for 4 in the game with 2 RBIs. Clay Burgess followed with a 2 for 4 and 1 RBI game. The Pioneers mustered 4 extra-base hits in the win, Boan led the way with two doubles.
Game 2
Crowley's Ridge- 4
Hannibal- LaGrange- 5
Hannibal, MO- In game two, it came down to the wire with the Trojans claiming the game from the Pioneers with a walk-off single up the middle after a late-game Pioneer error extended the inning. In the contest, the Pioneers scored the bulk of their runs in the top of the first as CRC pushed three runners to the plate before being shut out by the Trojan bullpen over the next four innings. Clay Burgess broke the silence with a lead-off game-tying homer in the 6th but woefully Burgess' solo shot would be CRC's final run of the contest. HLGU's offense outpaced the Pioneers rattling off 9 hits compared to the Pioneers' 6, and the Pioneers left 7 runners on base in the game. Senior RHP Chance Arender went the distance on the mound, throwing all 6.2 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) off the 9 Trojan hits while striking out 3 in his outing. Junior James Wilson stayed hot, leading the team once more as the Tennessean was the sole Pioneer with two hits in the game, going 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 1 double. Clay Burgess also brought in 2 RBIs with his 1 for 3, HR and Sac Fly effort.
Up Next: The Pioneers will finish their conference series against Hannibal-LaGrange tomorrow, Saturday, March 8th. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM. #GOPIONEERS
