CRC Baseball took on Florida National University for their final contest at the CAC Showdown in Lawrenceville, GA. Game Three:
Crowley's Ridge- 6
Florida National- 8
Lawrenceville, GA- In the final hitting stat-line of game three, the Pioneers came out ahead over the Conquistadors as CRC rattled off their best offensive performance of the weekend at the CAC Showdown with CRC out-hitting FNU ten to six. Although CRC out-hit FNU, the Conquistadors claimed the win thanks to a pivotal sixth inning where FNU took advantage of three HBP's, breaking the tie and retaking the lead by scoring five runs. The Pioneers entered the sixth tied with Florida National as both teams sat at three runs scored with CRC scoring one run in the first inning off Andrew Brown's RBI ground out, and CRC's other two runs coming off Josh Schmitt's RBI single and Adonis Thomas' RBI double in the third. In the game-changing inning, CRC quickly acquired two outs by retiring two of three batters to start the inning before running into despair as CRC loaded the bases for the Conquistadors allowing a two-RBI single from FNU to jumpstart their game-winning inning. CRC fought back in the top of the seventh as Josh Schmitt singled up the middle to bring in his second run of the day, and Blake Wilson along with Kenny Nelms scored off an FNU throwing error, but their runs would be in vain as the Conquistadors retired the final out, ending the game with the lead still in their favor. Offensive leaders for CRC; Josh Schmitt (2-4) two RBI, Adonis Thomas (2-3) RBI; double, Andrew Brown (2-3) RBI. Chance Arender took the loss throwing 5.2 innings allowing eight runs (five earned) off five hits while hitting five, walking three, and striking out five.
