Pioneers Win One On Opening Day of CAC Showdown

Pioneers Win One On Opening Day of CAC Showdown- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 4-14-23

 

Game One:

 

Crowley's Ridge- 17

 

Voorhees Univesity- 4



Lawrenceville, GA- CRC Baseball came out with a loud statement in game one of the CAC Showdown as they defeated VU soundly with a score of 17-4. CRC scored 17 runs off 11 hits and drew a season-high 15 base on balls from the Tigers' pitching staff. The Pioneers' big game was stimulated in the first inning as Blake Wilson got the train rolling as he rocketed a grand slam to left field building off Parker's RBI single to give CRC a 5-0 lead. Corby Seib gave up two runs in the bottom of the first but quickly settled in as he fanned the Tigers over the next 5 innings. The CRC offense manufacture runs in every inning except the third as they pounded their way to a tremendous lead. Freshmen James Wilson made his presence known in the contest as he went a perfect 3-3 from the plate while driving in 3 runs and drawing 3 walks. Trey Drake, Chipper Lamb, and Matt Parker also all produced multiple hits in the contest. Voorhees did score two more Tiger runs in the 7th but the Pioneers quickly retired the side and claimed the 17-4 win over Voorhees University.

Georgia Gwinnett- 12

 

Lawrenceville, GA- The Crowley's Ridge Pioneers faced a tough matchup in game number two of the day as they faced the hosting team of the CAC Showdown, #3 NAIA-ranked Georgia Gwinnett. The Pioneers came out swinging as Chipper Lamb singled with one out followed by Trey Gossett who gave CRC the lead in the top of the first by blasting a 2-run shot to left field but as the cookie crumbled these would be the only hits the Pioneers mustered in the contest. The 2-run lead quickly vanished as the Grizzlies scored three runs in the bottom half of the first and then continued to build their lead by posting 9 more unanswered runs. With the CRC offense unable to find another hit, the #3 Grizzlies defeated CRC 12-2.
