CRC Takes The Series
CRC Takes The Series- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 3-19-23
The series matchup between the Pioneers and Chargers proved to be fun one after a day one split, but the Pioneers looked to secure the series win to get the season back on track. The Pioneers would find the break they needed by slipping past the Chargers in both matchups today by one run in each contest, completing the series win. The Pioneers now improve to 7-11 on the season.
Game one:
Crowley's Ridge- 3
Southeastern Bible- 2
Laurel, MS- Almost in the exact way the first game of the series ended, the day two opening game headed down the same tracks. Scoring took place first by the Chargers at the bottom of the first. The Southeastern defense held the Pioneers answerless until the 4th when CRC strung together baserunners as Trey Gossett took a walk and Chipper Lamb followed with a double putting the tying run 90 feet away. JackHenry fulfilled his job with a sac fly to left field driving in a tagging Gossett to make things even again. Senior Lamb took matters into his own hands, or should I say legs, the same inning as he moved up to third and then played the upper hand on an error by the Southeastern catcher sneaking past the plate. Chance Arender, who got the start held this lead from the elevated surface until the 6th where a 3-hit inning from the Chargers scored one run making it 2-2. Again, like in game one, neither team took advantage and the game headed into extras. Arennder would be relieved after 7 innings of work by Adonis Thomas, and Thomas would give a fright in the bottom of the 8th, but a clutch double play by the CRC defense got him out of the jam. The Pioneers struck gold in the top half of the 9th with the first two batters drawing a walk allowing Blake Wilson to put the ball in play. With all tensions high the pressure on Wilson's grounder to the second baseman caused just enough chaos for Glasgow to cross the plate. Being three outs away from the win, Thomas retired the first two hitters with ease, but a two-out error followed by a hit tested the Pioneer defense. With runners now on first and second with two outs the Chargers looked to tie the game with the next hit. Fortunately for the Pioneers, when the next Southeastern hitter singled to center field, Blake Wilson was ready. Wilson delivered a rocket to Matt Parker's glove to tag out the game-extending run at the plate

Game Two:
Crowley's Ridge- 4
Southeastern Bible- 3
Laurel, MS- Now entering game 4, JackHenry Glasgow would lay down the bat and pick up the ball taking the bump in the series finale. Glasgow flung 7 vigorous innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and retiring 6 with strikeouts. The Chargers retaliated first once more in the first inning with the assistance of Glasgow as the sophomore let a couple of pitches slip that nailed Charger hitters. Before the next 9 outs of the game were concluded 6 runs would cross the plate. CRC found themselves on the winning side by pushing across two runs in the third and 2 more runs in the fourth inning taking the lead for good in game 4. Chipper Lamb continued his weekend performance with an RBI single to tie the game allowing Andrew Brown to bring the go-ahead run in with an RBI single to right field in the third inning. As Southeastern Bible answered and retook the lead 3-2 scoring 2 Charger runs in the bottom half of the third it would be Chance Arender and Matt Parker who each collected an RBI to tie and retake the lead in the 4th. The CRC defense remained spotless behind Glasgow as they held the one-point lead for the remainder of the game winning the contest and taking the series.
