Pioneers Split Day Two
Pioneers Split Day Two- Wil Teague, Sports Information Director, 2-12-23
CRC Baseball hit the diamond on day two of opening weekend in the hopes the weather would hold off, and they would get two games in for the day. The Pioneers' wish would be granted as they first rematched Kansas Christian College at 2:00 pm and then took on conference opponent, Arkansas Baptist the following game. The Pioneers found their first speed bump of the season as KCC bested them for the second day in a row but CRC found pay dirt in their second matchup. Crowley's Ridge collected their first win of the season ending the day with a win.
Game one:
Crowley's Ridge- 2
Kansas Christian- 16
Little Rock, Ark- CRC baseball came in looking for a split with KCC as the Falcons barely slipped past the Pioneers in a pitcher's dual game in their season opener with a score of 1-0 the day before. The Falcons would have other plans for the Pioneers as they busted out the game with a 3-run first inning with a single and a fielder's choice against the CRC defense. This would foretell the outcome of the game as the Falcons whacked out 15 hits and pushed across 16 runs on the Pioneers. The Pioneers couldn't match the firepower as they only musted 5 hits and 2 runs in the game. The Pioneers showed promise with an RBI double to right from Adonis Thomas to score Trey Gossett making it a 5-1 game in the 4th inning, but KCC ended all though having a huge 6th inning claiming the dominant lead over CRC. The Pioneers would not recover and fall 16-2.
Jack Henry Glasgow took the loss as he went 3.0 innings allowing 5 hits, 5 runs, 2BB, and 3 SO.
Matt Parker had a bright spot going 2-2 on the day. Kade Lindgren, Corbett Seib, and Adonis Thomas all collected one hit each.
Game Two:
Crowley's Ridge- 8
Arkansas Baptist- 1
Little Rock, Ark.- In game two, the Pioneers changed gears and got things going early on. CRC claimed first blood with an RBI single to center field scoring Blake Wilson. Chance Arender took the mound for the Pioneers in the bottom of the first, shutting out the Buffalos and allowing the sticks for the team in green to get another swing. Vancell Lucas answered the call this time, smashing a two-out RBI single making it a 2-0 CRC lead to end the 2nd. Arender kept his foot on the gas, striking out two of the three batters faced in the top of the third allowing the offensive attack to continue with two more runs crossing home plate with the help of a sac fly from Adomis Thomas and Chipper Lamb using his legs to score on a passed ball. The game would go quiet for almost two full innings until Arkansas Baptist broke the silence by exchanging the egg on the scoreboard for a 1. CRC decided to bust things open in the 6th with Garett Wilson getting things started off with a triple to right. The Pioneers pushed across 4 runs this inning crafting the gap that would hold for the rest of the game, allowing CRC to claim their first win of the season.
Chance Arender claimed the win by throwing 5.0 innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 run, 5 BB, 8 SO
CRC collected 6 hits scoring 8 runs. Trey Gossett and Vancell Lucas had a multi-hit game with two each. Garett Wilson and Matt Parker collected one hit each.
