WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – With rain moving into northeast Arkansas, Crowley's Ridge visited Williams Baptist (Ark.) University a day early, falling twice in a Monday doubleheader, first in a 14-8 final followed by a 14-4 loss.
Game One
Crowley's Ridge – 4
Williams Baptist – 14
The Pioneers (3-4) we placed into a big hole early when the hosting WBU Eagles (4-5) plated five runs in the first inning followed by a seven-run second inning.
Crowley's Ridge bounced back with a big third inning. Bobby Wright drew a one-out walk, followed by a steal of second base. Corbett Seib and Austin Gross both received a free pass on balls. Kole Simms would be credited with the first RBI by drawing a bases-loaded walk. Chipper Lamb would follow with a single up the middle, but only deep enough to plate one run. After Zorey Chipman walked in a run, Phoenix Beal laced a two-run double to left field. Keeping the inning alive with two outs, Garett Wilson drove home Chipman and Beal with a double of his own to left field.
The only other run for the men in green came in the top of the sixth inning when Gross singled home Seib who reached earlier in the inning on a single.
Chance Arender (0-1) picked up the loss in the second start of the season.
Game Two
Crowley's Ridge – 3
Williams Baptist – 14
A tough day on the bump for the second game of the double-header saw the Pioneer (3-5) pitching staff allow 14 runs off of 15 hits spread over the arms of six different hurlers.
After falling behind to the Eagles (5-5) by six runs, Trey Gossett spoiled a no-hitter by leading off the top of the fourth inning with a single. The Pioneers finally got on the scoreboard after a double by Chipper Lamb was followed by Phoenix Beal trotting home unmolested when the Eagle pitcher balked with runners on second and third.
CRC was held scoreless until the top of the seventh inning when a bases-loaded groundout from Noah Overshine plated Garett Wilson, followed by a one-run single off of the bat of Bobby Wright.
Kyle Russell (1-1) took the loss, throwing 2.2 innings. The Pioneer defense committed five errors in game two, allowing five unearned runs to cross the plate.
